Book launch in spring of 2023
A little girl, Sophie, is born in a colourless world of grey skies and hopelessness with only a shred of her soul intact. She’s made differently than everyone else. Her difference alienates her. She believes she is bad because there is no one like her, and her father and brother and the people of the village make her feel ashamed of the strange scar that shines oddly on her chest.
She doesn’t know of the old angel who came out of retirement to create her, nor the little spirit bird who breathed her possibility into being. But the scar releases an old magic that starts to change the world - bird, by magical creature, by frost flower - until spring almost arrives and the old, dead king awakens.
In the face of a deadly enemy and a collection of unlikely allies, Sophie discovers that her light is perhaps not a bad thing, maybe quite the opposite.
Sophie must learn to trust her ability to cast light, even though it will cost her fitting in and receiving the love she so desperately desires. The light shining between the frayed edges of her scar is the hope for her world... and for herself.
